Location: Deep Learning Lab, Lakeside Center
In Person Session Only. Tickets ($100,-) must be purchased in advance for this course. This course can be added through the registration portal or by stopping by the Registration Desk. Space is limited.
Learning objectives: 1) Understand the genesis and development of the Medical Imaging and Data Resource Center (MIDRC). 2) Experience how to build your own data cohort for AI research using the MIDRC publication platform - Gen3. 3) Explore additional MIDRC resources.
Course Description: The Medical Imaging Data and Resource Center (MIDRC) provides a model for collecting and publishing data to support research that can be applied across all areas of medical imaging. This session will give an overview of the structure of the MIDRC data commons, provide a tour of the open access data portal published on the Gen3 platform and discuss interoperability with other data commons including indexing with other imaging data commons. During this session, attendees will have the opportunity to experience how to build a selected data cohort direct from the MIDRC data commons for AI research.
Maryellen Giger - Introduction
Chris Meyer - Using the MIDRC user portal for cohort building and downloading data
Karen Drukker and Jordan Fuhrman – MIDRC resources (metric tree, bias tool, stratified sampling, and GitHub)

Location: N226
Learning Objectives: 1) Understand MIDRC’s mission to support medical imaging research using the Gen3 platform. 2) Review MIDRC’s tools and resources for AI/ML development. 3) Explore future expansions of MIDRC into cancer and other diseases.
Course Description: The Medical Imaging and Data Resource Center (MIDRC) is a collaborative initiative, funded by NIBIB and ARPA-H, and hosted at the University of Chicago on the Gen3 platform. Led by the American College of Radiology® (ACR®), the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA), and the American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM), MIDRC aims to advance medical imaging research by creating an AI-ready data commons. Initially focused on COVID-19, MIDRC now supports research for diseases like cancer through ethical data collection, standardization, and privacy protection. This session will cover MIDRC’s progress, its tools for AI/ML research, and its continued expansion into other disease areas.
